YOKOCHō IZAKAYA
VISUAL IDENTITY / ILLUSTRATION / CALLIGRAPHY /
Yokochō Izakaya is a project for a new restaurant that is currently under study. Its ideator was inspired by his trips to Japan, in particular by the many Yakitori-ya restaurants that he had the opportunity to try out during his travels. He wishes to offer a menu made up of local products prepared in a Japanese style. The establishment would be a cozy spot for friends to get together and relax, chat and listen to music, while discovering the flavors of Japan.
Mandate: The client asked us to create the visual identity for their future restaurant. Since he wanted something that would reflect different eras and visuals styles, we suggested a mix of urban art and traditional imagery. We used street art markers to design the Yokochō signature, which blends contemporary tag and traditional calligraphy styles. We also created an emblem illustrating certain elements typical of «Yakitori» , such as charcoal grilled skewers, and two phoenix birds to represent poultry. The final composition evokes the image of a «kabuto» , the traditional helmet worn by the Samurai warriors.
