Archipel Musique

Archipel is a Montreal based label that is built from a community of like-minded artists. Founded in 2004 by Pheek, Archipel was at first a simple project of publishing samples for a community to make special projects around it. Over time, the project became a label of free expression for artists who like to create techno, IDM, ambient, deep, dub and emotional music.

Mandate : The Archipel label mandated us to develop a new visual direction for the album covers of its 2012 and 2013 catalog. Given the minimal and experimental sound that characterizes the label, we chose to base our approach on pure exploration. The visuals for each album were created from a single starting point: the Archipel triangle. Using Processing.js, we pulled visual material generated by the software algorithms reacting to the distinct sounds of each artist. Through a process of random experimentation, we captured still images which we then vectorized and reworked for the final layout. The final artwork of each release was adapted to several formats, for social platforms and promotional material purposes.
